The Pragmatic Post: Art of the Handwritten Thank You
There are plenty of inspiring books and blogs geared towards the health, mental and relationship benefits of saying thanks! One of our favorites – “A Simple Act of Gratitude” by John Kralik
SET AN EXAMPLE & MAKE NEW HABITS
Make a habit of having your kids write thank you notes. Supply them with fun stationery (or let them personalize their own), pens, markers and stickers to get them excited to say thanks!
FIND YOUR STATIONERY STYLE
Do you prefer, simple, personalized stationery for all occasions? Do you prefer a wide variety of beautifully designed notes, cards and envelopes?
STAMP STYLE & PERSONALIZATION
Thankfully the USPS has introduced a “forever” stamp several years ago that allows you to stock up without ever wasting a stamp after an annual postage hike. There is a wide variety of designs to personalize your envelopes, or you can even order a custom designed stamp.
A PROPER THANK YOU
January is the perfect time to evaluate the role of gratitude in your life and express it. Following the gift-giving season, make time to properly say thank you. Handwritten thank you notes are the perfect (and traditional) way to thank loved ones for their heartfelt gifts.
A true traditionalist would argue that the actual words “thank you” should not be pre-printed on a thank you note - it should be handwritten in the body of the text by the sender. Either way, the act of saying thank you comes from the heart.
START THE YEAR WITH GRATITUDE
Did you “forget” to send holiday cards – thank you notes are just as fun and appreciated by the recipient. Wish them happy new year and thank them for their holiday wishes.
RESOLVE TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE YEAR ROUND
Saying thank you on paper applies to so many occasions - birthday gifts, dinner parties, interview requests, neighborly niceties, a job well done.
Everyone likes to receive a thank you note! Send one to hosts, babysitters, employers/employees, friends, family and helpful neighbors.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Do you find it productive to write at the office, or at a desk? Do all of your writing supplies live in the same place where you can find them?
Is it relaxing to curl up in a quiet armchair with a blanket and journal and catch up on correspondence?
Do you prefer to be productive on the go – perhaps carrying a pencil case of writing supplies and catching up a brief thank you’s in waiting rooms, while waiting on meetings or on public transportation?
FIND THE PERFECT PEN - see our online selection of pens
A comfortable writing pen makes all the difference – choosing something that feels good (the right grip and weight), writes smoothly (do you prefer a ballpoint, roller ball or fountain pen?) and makes you smile when you see it. A beautifully designed pen makes for a stylish desk accessory.
