Katherine + Jackson's Sea Pines Destination Wedding

When hurricane Matthew tore through the Caribbean and the US last fall it left miles of destruction in its wake including the Sea Pines area along the southern end of Hilton Head Island. Thousands of lives were impacted including Katherine + Jackson’s who were planning on an October wedding at the Sea Pines Resort. The wedding was postponed until December and it was worth the wait! The weather was incredible, Christmas songs were played, and Katherine + Jackson still celebrated with a handful of close friends on their originally planned wedding weekend. The gorgeous, sun-filled celebration was captured perfectly by Landon Jacob Photography.

Tell us about the proposal.

Jackson proposed to me a couple of days before Christmas in my hometown and gave me his great grandfather’s ring. It was also the ring that his dad used to propose to his mother. We had the setting reset and my Christmas gift that year was resetting the ring with my choice of wedding band.

How did you approach wedding planning?

Awesome Wedding Planner. I cared about the band and flowers and let her take care of the rest.

Describe your wedding day. Is there a particular moment that remains in your memory most vividly?

Our wedding was cancelled due to hurricane Matthew so we had to reschedule everything and it was devastating but the series of event ended up playing out even better. When our original October wedding was cancelled my friends were SO amazing.

My bridesmaids came over with a bag of treats the day we cancelled – wine to drown our sorrows and coffee if we had to stay up and reorganize or make calls. Fortunately we didn’t have to make a single call because Amanda, our wedding planner took care of EVERYTHING! Also my friends threw us a last minute party in DC that weekend and we had numerous friends surprise us by coming in town to celebrate our non wedding weekend.

The wedding was rescheduled, we changed everything and had an awesome holiday party. Weather was GORGEOUS - 70 degrees in December with the last song being “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

My favorite part of the evening was back at the afterparty at the Inn we had a awesome lady named Sara Burns play music at the Inn. It was relaxed and we were surrounded by our friends and family singing and dancing. I looked around and everyone was so happy and Jackson and I were on a whole other level of bliss. It was a moment of “OK this was the perfect weekend and this is the most perfect night and it could not have worked out any better”.

How did you and Jackson meet?

We met in college at Wake Forest and have been together almost nine years. We have had the benefit of sharing good friends which has made the ride all the more fun. We live in Washington DC and really enjoy it.

Tell us about finding your dress.

I wanted something sophisticated and statuesque. I went with my mom, step mom and mother in law plus two of my bridesmaids. Although we went to four shops in one day, I found my dress at the first spot and compared all the other dresses to it that day. It was a very small sample side so there was a lot of trust.

I loved the dress and the designer, Peter Langner, he was super personal and sewed a something blue ribbon underneath. The veil was also designed by him.

What song did you choose for your first dance?

Van Morrison - Into the mystic
