Allison + Tyler’s Saint Simon Destination Wedding

A beautiful summer destination wedding on the shores of Saint Simon’s Island in Georgia. Although Tyler and Allison’s wedding was rescheduled 3 times due to covid Allison shares that the her wedding turned out more perfect than imagined, a sentiment shared by so many of our couples whose plans have been impacted by covid. The ocean view ceremony took place flanked by towering palm trees surrounded by their closest friends and family. A gorgeous tented reception followed at The King and Prince Resort & Golf Course which has historical roots dating back to 1935 when it was a seaside dance club.

Allison describes her wedding as semi-formal with a sea-inspired palette. For the invitation suite, Allison wanted something traditional but with a modern touch. We used a square main invitation with raised inks in gold and charcoal. They wanted a subtle nod to the palms of Saint Simon’s Island but not themed. We reserved the palm trees for everything other than the invitation which gave us a nice element to use for the day of details including menus and placards. Brooke Roberts Photography captured the day.

Tell us a little about you and Tyler.

Tyler and I are both from Ohio, but have lived many other places prior to meeting one another. We connected on our sense of adventure and life goals. Since meeting, we've since moved to Asheville, North Carolina for Tyler's job and have experienced many adventures together. We enjoy going hiking and finding new waterfalls.

Tell us about the proposal.

Tyler had been holding onto the ring for quite some time, waiting for the perfect moment to surprise Allison. He said every time he would take her out she had her nails done and was expecting a proposal. On a beach trip to Clearwater, Florida, he decided to pop the question on their walk home from dinner one night. Allison was totally surprised!

What detail of the wedding was most important for you?

I loved the ceremony setting along with the three string quartet. The floral design and my bouquet turned out stunning as well.

What detail was most important to Tyler?

Tyler loved the outdoor beach setting, watching the sunset with our guests and dancing the night away under the stars. He also was a huge fan of the chocolate, toffee, fudge cake & the bourbon peach pecan. Our guests were a big fan of them as well!

Tell us about your wedding stationery vision and how it came together.

I wanted something traditional yet modern. The large square invites with names large in wrapped cursive text was an elegant and modern way to set the tone for our guests. We ended up carrying this theme into our menus, place cards and welcome signs

What part of the wedding planning process was the most fun or interesting?

I honestly loved it all! Customizing a memorable menu and experience for our guests had me excited during the whole planning process. We were a COVID couple and our wedding was originally scheduled for April. We had to move the date 3 times. It was extremely stressful, but the day turned out more perfect than we could've imagined.

Who was the person or resource you most leaned on during the planning process?

Our planner, Beth Williams, was worth every penny. She was extremely helpful in making sure our guests felt safe during the pandemic and helping to reschedule vendors each time.

Take us back through your wedding day!

Bride squad started getting ready around 9 am. We listened to music, laughed and toasted champagne while getting ready. The day went by very quickly as before I knew it, it was time for the first look. We got into our trolly and went to the Avenue of the Oaks, where Tyler and I shared an intimate first look. It was nice for us to steal a moment for just the two of us.

How would you describe the style of your wedding?

Beach Semi-Formal with a sea-inspired color palette. Light greens, navy blue, and a palm leaf accent head table. Allison always wanted to get married on a beach and Tyler loves the low-country feel. They decided on St. Simon's as it was the best of both worlds. Beautiful oceanfront venue with Spanish moss trees throughout the island.
