What was the proposal like?

Clay did such a wonderful job with the proposal! As I mentioned, Clay is from Lexington and over the two years that we had dated, Keeneland had become a special place for us. Therefore, it was an easy choice of location when Clay decided to propose. We had not made it to Keeneland that Fall, so Clay was insistent that we go to “Breakfast at Keeneland” early Saturday morning. Naturally, I did not want to wake up that early on a Saturday morning and thought that we should skip Keeneland. Clay won the battle, however, and we arrived at Keeneland just in time to see the horses warm up. After a few minutes of watching the horses, I looked over at Clay and said “Are you ready to go eat?” which was followed by “Welllll….we aren’t here for breakfast” and Clay getting down on one knee. Clay had thought of every detail and the entire day was perfect!

Lexington meets Cincinnati in the most beautiful way. Kelly Herkamp Pear takes us through her story with it's Lexington beginnings and Cincinnati endings. As Kelly perfectly described it, light and airy was the mood of the day, from the rich lemon walls of Indian Hill Church to the elegant breeziness of Hyde Park Country Club. All things converging to make this Cincinnati wedding one to remember. Photographed beautifully by Claire Marie Photo.

Did your wedding match your personal style or did you incorporate elements from family, tradition or otherwise?

I would say that, for the most part, our wedding matched our personal style. We wanted the ceremony to be personal and light and then we wanted our reception to be a big party! The room at Hyde Park Country Club is light and airy, so I wanted to compliment that with beautiful florals, lots of greenery and light golds and creams.

Describe your wedding day.

Our wedding day, July 18th, was one of the hottest days of the summer (note to future brides- choose venues that are air conditioned if getting married in July!). Luckily, we had air conditioned venues, so we only struggled through the pictures. Despite the heat, our wedding day was the best day of our lives. We were surrounded by so many of our friends and family, which was so special. We had an amazing ceremony at Indian Hill Church and then partied the night away at Hyde Park Country Club - it was wonderful from start to finish!
