Sara + Stephen’s Wedding at the Windamere

How did you envision the stationery, flowers, cake and decor working together to create a cohesive look?

I knew I wanted all of our accessories to compliment each other.  Our colors for our wedding were blush and champagne. Our venue coordinator asked to see our invitation, my dress, and flower arrangement prior to meeting for our decor consultation. We were blessed to have so many people coordinate with our wants and needs so our vision was maintained throughout the whole wedding process.

Describe your wedding day. Is there a particular moment that remains in your memory most vividly?

Our wedding day started off by the ladies getting ready at The Windamere’s bridal suite and then having our first look photograph in front of their vault.  Our ceremony was held at St. John Church in Middletown. The church was a traditional Catholic church that reflected the early 1900s beauty. The reception was held at The Windamere, which was built in 1929 as the Ogelsby-Barnitz Bank.  It is rich with history which includes a 40-foot barrel vaulted ceiling, twin balconies filled with artwork, ornate sconces, the former Music Hall chandelier which was bought when Music Hall made their renovations, and the original vault that was the bar (we have access to a safety deposit box to store our momentos forever!)  The guests were in awe from the moment they stepped foot in The Windamere.

The memory that sticks out the most to me was the personal note from my husband that he wrote inside the card he gave me with my wedding gift. His words were so touching, I had to get my make-up touched up from the tears! I also loved walking down the aisle arm in arm with my father looking at all of my family and friends that came to celebrate me and my husband.

Tell us a little about you and Stephen.

I am a sixth grade teacher in the Winton Woods City School District and my husband is a police officer in Dayton. Although our schedules don’t always allow us to see each other many evenings, we make time on the weekends by attending sporting events and going to new restaurants. We met on St. Patrick’s Day-- just our luck!

How would you describe the overall style of your wedding?

I envisioned our wedding to have a soft, romantic feel. I wanted our guests to be wowed and know that we truly spent time planning everything from the decor, to the flowers, and the location of the wedding and reception.... Of course it all started with our guests getting a hint of our vision by receiving our invitation from Poeme!

Did you have a strong idea for the design of your wedding stationery prior to your consultation?

My idea for the design of my wedding stationary was clean, simple, and elegant.  I knew I wanted the invitations to be off-white with a hint of gold. I had searched ideas online and brought those to our consultation.  However, I had a fear of ordering a large quantity of invitations online knowing I may have had a typo or not aligned everything correctly. Meeting with someone professionally was important to me so I could be ensured that the invitations were nothing but short of perfection.

What part of the process did you find most interesting  - the design, the print process, the etiquette and tradition? What part did you find most challenging?

The most interesting part of the planning was seeing the design come together. The planning process was made so easily from the first consultation. When we were presented with the albums of examples from different stationary companies, we could easily narrow down what we liked and didn’t like.  From there, our invitation was created using the perfect font, color, and size.

The most difficult process was the distance we lived from Poeme. This was the only shop that offered this type of in-person service that I found; but we didn’t let the far drive stop us from getting the best quality we knew we wanted.

Best part of being married so far?

The best part of being married are all of the milestones that we have accomplished in such a short amount of time. The month after our honeymoon, we closed on our first home and now we have a baby on the way!  It is the best feeling that we have the same goals in life and can’t wait for our next chapter of adding a new family member.
