Molly + Ross' Sky Blue Wedding Stationery

A beautiful ceremony at the Chapel at St. Ursula Academy followed by an absolutely gorgeous, floral dream reception at Cincinnati’s Hyde Park Country Club. A palette of blues, from powder to navy with just a hint of green carried through all the details making this wedding a visually stunning celebration to be remembered.

Molly + Ross’ wedding stationery featured a custom monogram encircled with a blue flowered set of antlers. Each thick white cotton invitation was mounted on powder blue stock. Envelopes were lined in navy blue which matched the text on the invitation. The wedding program and the reception dinner menu also featured the couple’s custom monogram. Their choice to create a large transparent circular seating chart that was wreathed in greenery at the entrance to Hyde Park Country Club, setting the tone for the reception and mirroring the circular dinner menu. A COHESIVE LOOK

There are several reasons why working with a stationery designer is important for many couples. Creating a cohesive look is one of them. Sending a visual message from the save the dates through the invitations, and then onto wedding day items such as menus and signage, alert guests that this “look” is unique to the couple and their wedding.

FOCUS

In order to do so, there needs to be a focus which sometimes can be as simple as a color, or a floral image, but many times it is a monogram. Before diving into any of the design, Molly and Ross wanted to focus on their monogram, and wanted to incorporate their full, married monogram from start to finish – MFR. WHIMSICAL & FEMININE

The bride, Molly, overall had a very whimsical, and feminine wedding stationery vision, but really wanted the monogram to be classic. We were able to use color to help us draw focus to their first initials, while subtly introducing their new last initial. There were several rounds of revisions, but it was so worth the end result. The custom monogram was our anchor and pulled everything together beautifully.

PULLING THE VISION TOGETHER

With these three elements – the monogram, the watercolor florals, and the antlers, Molly and Ross were able to create cohesion throughout the entire event that could still be fresh and creative, and not boring and repetitive. Cohesive design walks a fine line between being redundant and creating an evolving and interesting aesthetic that pulls the vision together.

MONOGRAMS

Monograms can be tricky. They are always different combinations (consider this – there are over 17,000 combinations incorporating three letters,) and certain letters do not necessarily play well with the others. The first challenge is making the letters legible while maintaining pleasant aesthetics. Now pair this with making sure that there is balance – no one letter can appear more important or dominating of the others – and we’re talking creative engineering, not design!

FEMININE SKY BLUE

Next, color and a nod to their new home – Colorado! Feminine sky blue and a bold, rich navy danced together by introducing watercolor florals AND antlers – a causal reminder to their Midwest guests that they now called home where the buffalo roam.

If I had to go off of the infectious smile on Molly’s face, I feel like we were able to capture the bride and groom’s personalities successfully, and are so pleased to have played a part in creating their wedding vision!
